Vintage 1973 Gibson Electric Guitars
In 1973 Gibson Guitar Company was struggling because of a buy out in the late 1960’s. One thing that remained a bright spot for the company was there Les Paul and SG guitar models. As hard rock and heavy metal became more popular so did these legendary guitars. From the early 1970s, the Epiphone brand name has been increasingly used by Gibson for lower priced guitars manufactured in countries outside of the U.S. A great place to fine one of these lower priced guitars is on eBay. The popularity of both the inexpensive and expensive Gibson guitars continues to grow.
Sometimes the changes to vintage Gibson guitars were more cosmetic than anything else. In 1973 for example, the Gibson added pearl logos, block inlays, and SG to the truss rod covers to their Gibson SG Special. The engineering and design quality of Gibson guitars was always so high to begin with that major changes weren’t needed on a regular basis. Because of all the different great guitars Gibson was producing in 1973, the selection of 1973 Gibson guitars go way beyond the classic Les Paul models. Players and collectors might be surprised to find out just how many Gibson guitars survived the 1973 in great shape. Some guitars were played very little before being set aside in storage for years.
