Vintage 1957 Gibson Electric Guitars
In 1957, Gibson purchased the Epiphone guitar company which at the time was one of their main competitors. The original plan was to continue selling Epiphone`s successful upright bass, and soon after Gibson realized they could meet demands from music stores by producing Epiphone-brand guitars. The Epiphone Company also produced ES-175s in golden and black colors.
Beginning in February 1957, the ES-175s came equipped with humbuckers, which help produce a cleaner sound. Many new jazz guitarists used these to imitate the sound of Wes Montgomery or Pat Metheny. The ES-175 with humbuckers is prized for its full, rich tone. The designation of 175 came from the original price tag of the first ES, which was $175. Wouldn't it be nice to go to eBay and find any vintage Gibson electric guitar for that price Sadly, it`s not going to happen, but stillto own an original Gibson.
